First day on the new laptop with vista.  I like it so far, but it's just fun to check out new things.  I'm at my grandfather's place, though, and he has FiOS (fiber-optic service).  A trip to wikipedia told me that verizon actually started their FiOS pilot program right here in keller, texas.  It's awesome.  He's got tv, internet, and phone (meh) through one service, and the two that i care about are of high quality.  I don't have digital cable, but all of my friends seem to, and it's always very slow.  HD programming is choppy and blocky on cable, and changing channels takes longer than i think it needs to.  Not the case with fiber.  Everything is really smooth, and the picture is great.  I'm also enjoying a down speed of 13.5 Mbps right now.  I have the highest of my friends back home with 6 using comcast cable.  I've been seeing ads in chicagoland about laws that are trying to be passed that would allow for more competition in the telecom marketplace.  I'm really excited about this.  Right now, comcast is my only choice for cable, and i don't like 'em so much.  I'm also unaware of anybody offering fiber, which i could really digg.  It'll be interesting to see what happens with this new legislation if it passes.  I don't know much about it now, i'll look further into it soon.

Finally got around to ordering a few things today.  Mom wanted a laptop before we leave for texas over spring break this week.  Got a nice dell inspiron e1505 for her when we get there.  Couple gigs of ram, good core 2 duo, 7300gs go.  Gotta be extra nice to mom now ;-)  Also finally got a replacement headset for the one the dog chewed up.  Sennheiser pc 160, looking forward to it.  Me and my friend brad got a podcast to play with.  Also ordered mom a cannon powershot a 630.  PC mag editors' choice, can't go wrong.  Can finally stop using the old sony cybershot that nobody in the family likes.  Got a paper to write and a new pc magazine to read, i'm done.

Alright, so I don't know exactly what i'm gonna do with this.  Some commentary on stories (mostly technology), some personal garbage, maybe a little tumblog style postings.  Wanted a place to post crap without having to say the word 'my' twice in a row when telling people about it.  No post worth reading today, just setting it up.  Come back later, i'll try and get something worth reading.  Criticisms encouraged, negative criticisms encouraged, help me suck less throughout this.
